Friday's half day at the Old House gave the boys the chance to get the structural beam set in place for my open concept living space. David decided it would be possible to reroute one of the heating ducts which left me thrilled to tears, literally.
He also found me two glass cabinet doors for me to strip and hopefully incorporate into the kitchen cabinets. It will be my first stripping experience. If it goes well, I'm going to tackle all the upstairs interior doors which have all been painted.
The door way for the powder room was put in.
The doorway that was between our living space and what will be our office in the front room of the house will be closed up. The only entrance into the 'office' will be the entry wall by the stairs.
My opened kitchen. The only thing left to do is move those two water lines to the left.
My opened living area.
During our cleanup for the week, we decided to rip up the carpet that was in the kitchen.
Low and behold, hardwood floors in fairly decent shape.
The money we'll save on tile, made me tear up a little more.
My nature always leads me to something that I'm told is impossible.
I was hoping to uncover the chimney through the house and include it in our design.
The wire mesh and concrete like mortar plus the plaster.
After giving it a go, even I decided to give it up as well.
My exposed chimney through the house will be a fail. I haven't totally given up on the idea of a visible chimney running through both floors. I'll find a way to make it happen. On a positive note, David bought a chimney insert just yesterday, so we'll be able to use the old chimney itself and get rid of the rickety thing off the north side. So functionally it's not a fail, aesthetically, is another story.
Just a reminder: You have that vintage (circa 1970) hanging kitchen light in my basement waiting for the perfect spot in your old new house's kitchen.
ReplyDeleteI'm trying to get David on board with that light. I might have to stick it in my not so butler style pantry.
